And we’re off to the races!

Hi, everyone – just a quick note to let you in on my paid advertising experiment this weekend – Shizzle, Inc is on $0.99 sale all Saturday and Sunday 10-11 October. Also, I’ve paid eReader News Today to promote it. These are the stats as of right before the promo goes live:

Sales: this week was poor – only 3 sales in the entire week. The previous week was 12 sales (I don’t know how many were borrowed).

Current Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #250,189 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

An update will follow at the end of the Sunday!

  1. Good luck with the promo, can’t wait to find out the results. I bought a copy this morning.

I’ve been researching your list from last post, looking for feedback on the various types of promotional sites. My research has not proved to be very promising. While the initial investment seems small, it adds up to many more books that need to be sold to reach the only goal that really matters, break even point.

Like you, I’m finding that Facebook and social media can only account for ‘so many’ sales regardless of how many followers one has. It’s much easier to hit the Like/Follow button than it is to hit the “Buy” button. I’m putting mine up for free next weekend to experiment with that and it costs nothing for me to do so.

I believe we are in the hands of Luck at some point. The right person has to stumble on our work, buy it, read it and then spread the word. Rome wasn’t built in a day after all. Most of my research keeps coming back to the same point. Get another book out there and as soon as it hits the market, start working on another.

Keep plugging, I’ll keep following. Willing to help you out all I can with my meager following and I mention you often in my blogs.

    • Hi, Ken, yes – you should at least break even, although for me it will take a while, since I’ve invested $3,000 into publishing. For this particular exercise, I need to sell 80 to break even, and this morning I sold 18 in a matter of hours, so there’s hope!

  3. Good luck! It’s rough for authors, isn’t it. But I believe that all good books will be eventually appreciated commensurate to their worth!

I missed it when it was free, even with a reminder on my phone, so I got this today! So far it’s fun and I’ll definitely be posting a review in the new few days once I finish it. 🙂

24 already, awsome! Also, with your next book you’ll have the potential to contact all your previous purchasers and hopefully overcome some of this inertia.

  9. I just bought Shizzle, Inc. based on this blog post, not the promo you’re doing, though I do love the price tag. 🙂 I downloaded the preview last week and enjoyed it, so I’ll look forward to reading the whole thing this week.

I’m almost done with my first book, which is middle grade historical fiction so completely different from your genre, but I really appreciate your blog and how you’re sharing all your experiences with all of us. Thanks so much for tracking everything and letting us follow along. I wish you tons of success!
