My first one-star review – I guess it had to happen sooner or later

This one popped up on Goodreads – thank god it’s not on Amazon, which would potentially mean fewer sales…I’m feeling pretty philosophical about it – I guess you can’t expect everyone to love a book, any book, it’s a matter of personal preference. Wish I could make sense of it, though – the main complaint from someone who loves screwball comedy seems to be that it’s “improbable” and has “too many screwballs”. The most disappointing thing is actually that I can’t use this particular critique to improve my writing. Anywho, I’m off to enjoy life 🙂

  1. Hi Ana, just wandering, how are ye getting on with the book?

  2. I had my first, less than glowing review the other day but they still gave me 3 stars and just said “didn’t hold my interest”. Could’ve been worse 😉

Waiting for the day when someone really hates my book. I’m sure it’ll happen at some point…

  3. The reviewer said that “everybody is a screwball or screw-up.” Sounds like my past life!
You can’t please all of the people all of the time… and you’ll go insane trying. Just be true to yourself.

  4. Aw, man. I’m sorry you experienced that. You’re right though, not everyone is going to like your book but this is something that will just make you stronger as a person. 🙂

    • Thank you, Morgan 🙂 I do agree – and perhaps the reason I’m not upset about it is that I’ve experienced lots and lots of rejection in the four years I was an actor. You just understand that it’s not personal, that you were not a good fit for a role. The same thing that makes you unsuitable for one role (in my case, my Russian accent), makes you perfect for another…

One stars happen to the best of us. Now just bury it a mile deep with 5 star reviews and it will be no more 🙂 that’s what I do. May I offer the site to expound on the strategy if people find it helpful? Emergencyreputation.com

It’s my company. I’ve never set it up for Amazon but technically the flow should be the same. I see you have a following. Would you like to test it out and I’ll set it up for you without charging in trade for you sharing thoughts on your experience with it?

    • Well, talk about an offer I can’t refuse! Amazon is where it’s at for writers, so I’d be happy to be the test bunny for that. My email is ana(dot)spoke(at)yahoo(dot)com, please let me know what I need to do.
