Shizzle, Inc is on Amazon Kindle bestseller list!!!

Aaaaaa!!! I was just climbing into bed to start working on my blog tour spreadsheet and decided to stare at my Amazon link one more time. I’m tired after a full day of spreadsheeting and bullshitting at work, so I thought seeing Isa’s face would give me the much-needed boost. Then I noticed this:

This must be some kind of a mistake, I thought. So I clicked on a link, which took me to Top 100 Paid Titles in Humour. And there she was, my creation, with a number 72 next to it:

I’m speechless. Good thing that I can still type, so that I can “say” thank you to those who bought my book. Regardless of what happens next, you’ve made my dream come true.

Big, big hugs.

Ana

    • Thank you, Jo! I can’t quite believe it – it has been such a long, hard slog that I expected this to be a long hard slog too. Afraid to go to sleep – what if it’s a glitch and I’m back down tomorrow? Glad I saw it and took screenshots 🙂

  25. First off, congrats! Doubly so, now that you hit the charts! 🙂

OK, I need to ask, since I’m about to take the same steps you are — that is, if it doesn’t kill me first. Is it me, or is both KDP and CreateSpace really not author-friendly in terms of setting things up? Over the last few days I’ve been attempting to go with both, but it just seems so unnecessarily complex and confusing. I know what I’m doing and can do most of this by myself, and I don’t want to shell out the hundreds of dollars for experts to do it for me…but the hoops one needs to take are so not user-friendly.

All I want to do is be listed on Amazon, but at this point I’m actually near the point of remaining on Smashwords (and making a physical book via BookBaby) purely because Amazon’s too much of a pain in the butt.

Sorry to be a downer, but I’m just curious as to how you got through all this without tearing your hair out…?

    • Hi Jon! I only took on Kindle, CreateSpace is the next project. I actually didn’t think Kindle (using Word) was all that hard. Having said that, I’m still working out a couple of formatting issues, but that’s about making the book look better, it is already up there and is being read. What are your specific issues?

      • I think I may have figured out the Kindle part of it after starting from the beginning again…my bad, I think I had gone into it a little too quickly and misinterpreted a few questions. CS still seems a bit confusing, though…maybe if I have more time and patience I’ll figure it out.
I think I was expecting something much more streamlined, like Smashwords, which explains everything as you go. 😉

We shall see where this leads… 😉

  31. As a completely unknown author struggling to get out there, I’m always happy to hear of the success of others. Many congratulations and I hope your book rises to a much higher number up the charts. 🙂

    • Thank you, Jeanette! It has fallen since, even though sales remain slow and steady – Amazon does give a boost in ratings to new titles. I’m about to start paying ads, look out for my super-comprehensive and up to date guide to book marketing websites.

  32. Congratulations, Ana! I hope your book takes off. I’d love to say I can join you in the humor ranks, but, so far, there isn’t one damned funny thing about any of my stories (on my blog) or novels…yet. – Justin

  33. Congratulations! I was just wondering about Jon Chaisson’s message. I’m not very good at formatting, although following Amazon’s free booklet on how to create a book for Kindle, I didn’t find it too difficult. http://www.amazon.com/Building-Your-Kindle-Direct-Publishing-ebook/dp/B007URVZJ6/
I use Draft to Digital https://www.draft2digital.com/ to distribute to other places (I found the instructions for Smashwords very long) and they also offer the possibility of submitting the book to Create Space. Although one still needs a cover in PDF to their specifications (there’s a template provided), at least they look after the inside of the book. And the final result looks good.

    • Thank you, Olga! I didn’t think Kindle was too hard – my main disappointment was that drop caps did not work and I had to change back. I was originally going to format myself for SW and CS, but just got a very reasonable quote from eBook Launch, so will go with them. I will post about my experience with them. Just don’t have the time, with a full-time regular job…
